Our Commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards, which are recognised internationally as the benchmark for digital accessibility.

These guidelines are designed to make content usable for people with:

  • blindness and low vision
  • deafness and hearing loss
  • learning disabilities
  • cognitive limitations
  • limited movement
  • speech disabilities
  • photosensitivity
  • and any combination of these.

Following these guidelines also improves the usability of our site for all users. Learn more about accessibility standards on the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative website.

Accessibility by Design

Accessibility is built into the design, development and maintenance of our website and digital products from the earliest stages. We apply inclusive design principles and ensure accessibility is a consideration in all new projects and content updates.

Assistive Technologies

This website has been designed to:

  • Support keyboard navigation (without the use of a mouse)
  • Work with screen readers and other assistive technologies
  • Use ARIA landmarks and headings to improve navigation

Testing and Continuous Improvement

We regularly review, test and update our digital platforms using both automated tools and manual checks to ensure continued compliance with accessibility standards. Accessibility is an ongoing process, and we welcome feedback to help improve our site.

Non-HTML Formats

Some data on this website may be provided in non-HTML formats (such as PDF, Word, or Excel). We are progressively converting these into more accessible formats.

Multimedia Accessibility

Where possible, we provide captions, transcripts and alternative text for videos, images and other multimedia content to ensure all users can access information in their preferred format.

Training and Awareness

We are committed to building internal capability by ensuring our staff and contractors are aware of accessibility principles and encourage ongoing training in accessible design and content creation.

Accessible Procurement

We consider accessibility and inclusivity requirements in new procurements and contract renewals to ensure third-party digital products and services also meet established accessibility standards.

Monitoring and Reporting

We conduct regular audits and monitor the accessibility of our website and content. Updates and improvements are made as needed to maintain compliance and improve user experience.

Compliance

We comply with Australian Government legislation and policies that support accessible and inclusive digital services. This includes meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, following the latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and applying the principles of the Australian Government Style Manual to ensure our content is consistent, readable and accessible to all users.
